Leaving Lairg this morning we travelled north crossing a great expanse of open moorland.
We branched off onto a minor road leading through very remote country to Dun Dornaigil Broch - the remains of a prehistoric high status residence. Please follow link for more information
This was the main entrance. The ground level would have been much lower before the modern road past was built.
The Broch is close to Ben Hope (927 metres) the most northerly mountain in Britain over 3000 feet high. As such it is a must for all aspiring Munroists .
We also had a marvellous view of Ben Hope. I have heard it said that if you are lucky enough to be on the summit of Ben Hope at 1.00 BST on the 22nd of June and the sky is clear you will see the sun almost disappear into the sea to the north but then when it has all but gone it rises up again! I must say I have my doubts about this story.
Today we travelled 43 miles (69 kilometres) We are at: N58.46135 W4.62015
