Monday 25th April 2022

This morning we visited Chateau de Pirou.

You enter through a couple of gateways.

Then you encounter the moat and the castle walls - that is after you've paid your 7 euros entry fee (Ann got 2 euros knocked off her fee by claiming she had left her walking stick in the van!)

The castle dates back to before the Normans arrived here. Originally it was a wooden structure.

There are extensive outbuildings around the castle.

This is the cider press.

There is a modern tapestry here made in the 1980s depicting the Norman conquest of Sicily done in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry.

This is the chapel.

Here's the entrance to the castle itself.

Inside it all looks a bit dilapidated.

We went up onto the ramparts.

Altogether an interesting visit even if a bit pricey.

We moved on south to the city of Coutances where we found a parking place in the centre close to the Cathedral.

It's a very imposing building.

Over the square from the cathedral is the also very imposing town hall.

We had a look around inside the cathedral.

This is looking up inside the tower.

There were a lot of renovation works going on in the cathedral today.

This is the façade of the cathedral looking back from the square opposite the town hall.

We moved on south from Coutances and parked for the day at the town of Gavray at the aire de camping cars.

From the aire there is a nice walk into town through a wetland area by the river,

In town the river passes over a weir.

I passed these old geysers having a chat by the river.

Here's the town bridge.

We have a nice rural view out of the side of our van this afternoon.

Today we travelled 30 miles (48 kilometres). We are at N48.9112 W1.3458
