Saturday 23rd April 2022

It was still very windy in the night and this morning at the Nez de Jobourg. We travelled south stopping briefly at Siouville Hague to empty our waste tanks at the municipal aire. We stopped for the day at Portbail where the authorities have made us welcome as you can see from these signs at our parking place.

There's plenty of space to park.

Here's the view from the front of our van. Very interesting tidal wetlands.

Portbail town centre is a very short walk from our van. This old church is no longer used as a church and is now used for art exhibitions. Unfortunately it was closed today.

An old stone bridge crosses the mouth of the river here.

The local eateries were doing a bomb this Saturday lunchtime. From what I could see Moules (Mussels) are the favoured dish round here.

Uphill from the town centre there is a church which is still in use as a church.

At the entrance to the church there are two old inlaid sculptures which have been vandalised. Surely there was no reformation here!?

Maybe the sculptures were vandalised by revolutionaries?

Close by are the remains of an ancient baptistry which dates from the very earliest days of Christianity in this area.

The remains of the baptistry are protected from the elements (and vandals) by a fine new modern building.

Having provided us with a nice place to park the municipality is also at pains to stress that they don't want us to park anywhere else!

Beyond the town bridge lie beaches and dunes.

We had vegetable curry for our tea. Afterwards we watched TV. It's the French Presidential Election tomorrow. If Ms Le Pen gets elected watch out for Frexit! As well as French TV we can pick up all the British  channels here presumably from a transmitter on the nearby island of Jersey.

Today we travelled 38 miles (61 kilometres). We are at: N49.3375 W1.7008
