Tuesday 26th April 2022

This morning we made the short journey east to see the Abbaye de Hambye. It's closed on Tuesdays so we could only look at it from the adjoining road.

We moved on south to the town of Avranches where we summoned up courage to find a parking place in the town centre. Here are what remains of the battlements.

The object of our visit is housed within this basilica.

It's in the Treasury of the Basilica.

It's housed in an ornate case.

It's the gold plated skull of an eighth century bishop of Avranches who was tasked with building the nearby Mont St Michel. When the work wasn't going fast enough the Angel Michael flew down from heaven and with his finger prodded a hole in the bishop's skull to hurry him up with the building work. You can clearly see the hole in the skull today!

The Basilica even has a confessional with disabled access.

We emerged back into the land of reality!

We moved on south stopping on the way to buy groceries. We stopped for the day at the village of Lapenty. We are at the aire de camping cars. This is the view from the side door of our van.

We took a walk around the lake.

They have a floating duck house which is not currently floating.

There is a shrine just up from the lake shore.

It's s nice spot to sit and fiddle with your phone.

Here's the view towards the village from the other side of the lake.

There are a range of exercise machines by the lake.

Very strenuous?

This one looks a bit dangerous.

Later on I took a walk into the village. Here's the church.

Here's the restaurant.

Here's the cemetery.

That's about it as far as Lapenty goes.

Today we travelled 50 miles (81 kilometres). We are at: N48.5784 W1.0090
