Saturday 3rd November 2018

From Vicenza we travelled east stopping off along the way to do a supermarket shop.

We stopped for the day at one of two free aires in the city of Treviso just north of Venice. Parked in the aire when we arrived was this very interesting British registered old A class camper.

We took a walk into the city centre. The three/four  arched bridge in the photo is The Bridge of Dante.

We arrived at the cathedral which looked a bit uninteresting. It had been destroyed by bombing in 1944 and since reconstructed.

Nearby we saw these mosaics.

Round the back we got a glimpse of the cathedral dome.

For 3 euros each we got to see inside the cathedral crypt and museum.

The crypt is ancient and clearly survived the WW2 bombing.

In the crypt.

Also in the crypt. Unfortunately photography is not allowed in the cathedral museum but it does contain some fine old religious paintings, relics and treasures of the cathedral. Most interestingly it has a medieval fresco of the murder of Thomas Beckett in Canterbury Cathedral!

We saw these interesting statues.

We wandered around the city centre. The temperature was well over 20 degrees. We were in our T shirts. Everyone else was wearing warm coats, scarves, hats etc!

The centre is a maze of little streets with numerous cafes and bars all busy on a Saturday afternoon.

It would have been easy to get lost but by now we had picked up a city map.

There is a daily fish market on the "island".

Whatever is she up to?

Unfortunately the fish market had closed for the day by the time we got there.

We wandered back to our parking place.

Here's the view out of the side of our van.

Here's another of those marvellous signs which you would never ever see in Britain - no parking except for camper vans!

Today we travelled 44 miles (71 kilometres). We are at N45.66770  E12.26389

Glad you are safe from the high winds on the eastern side, terrible to read of deaths in the Dolomites area

Hi S,

Thanks for your comment. We're planning to stay away from snowy places for a while!

Roger.
