Friday 2nd November 2018

Today we travelled east and stopped at the city of Vicenza. We parked at one of two aires here which include unlimited travel by bus into the city centre included in the parking price.

When we got on the shuttle bus the bus driver was having a very heated discussion with a passing motorist and wasn't interested in us.

Eventually she got back in the bus and she drove off. We hadn't got a clue where to get off and before we knew it we were back at the aire!

When the next bus came we got on and then got off once it had crossed the river which we thought was close to the city centre.

We walked into the historic centre.

We passed this nice old doorway.

We arrived in the main square.

It is clearly the place to see and be seen in Vicenza.

These Italian squares are really something else!

Another view of the main square.

We walked the short distance to the Cathedral - The  Duomo.

We went inside. It is just one huge rectangle - there is no transept.

Here are the relics of Saint Adriani.

And here those of Saint Clementis.

In a side chapel this display is reminiscent of eastern orthodox art,

The alter is quite spectacular.

In the crypt there are several recent burials. I imagine that it would have cost the relatives of these deceased a vast sum to be buried in the cathedral in such style.

Another side chapel had this on display.

There are some interesting old frescoes.

They have a copy of The Turin Shroud (a medieval fake of the cloth that Jesus was supposed to have been buried in).

Here's a view of the cathedral taken far enough away to get most of it in.

We wandered around the city centre for a bit longer before getting the bus back to the aire from where we can see this apartment block with a roof garden.

Today we travelled 66 miles (106 kilometres). We are at N45.56374 E11.54630
