Into Basilicata

On Friday 4th May we continued east along the shore of the Gulf of Taranto and crossed from Calabria into Basilicata. Very interesting coastline with many features such as this old tower.

We are staying at Metaponto which is a typical Italian seaside resort with a nice beach, promenade and public art such as what Ann's sitting on here.

We are staying on an aire here with three other vans. Most of the houses in town seem to be holiday villas with no one at home. The local supermarket has very little stock. Recession or just off season?

Today we intend to move closer to Bari as we've booked ourselves onto a ferry to Greece leaving Bari at 1.00 p.m on Sunday and due to arrive at Patras in the Peloponese at 7.00 a.m. on Monday 7th May.
