Heading south down the west coast of the Peloponnese

On Tuesday 8th May we found this car park by the beach at Savalia on which to spend the day and night. We were roughly two thirds of the way between Patras and Pirgos on the west coast of the Peloponnese.

There were great views in all directions. You might just be able to make out the hazy outline of the island of Zakynthos in the distance??

There were Sand Martens nesting in the sandy cliff and putting on amazing aerial displays. A more worrying aerial display by what we took to be the Greek Airforce was also taking place. They were dropping bombs into the sea a few kilometres offshore. Greece currently does not have a government and we're a bit worried that there might be another military takeover along the lines of the 1967 - 1974 CIA supported military junta in Greece!

However as dusk arrived the military jets went away and traditional activities such as fishing resumed.

And this was about the last we saw of the sun.

Today Wednesday 9th May we came a further 100 kilometres south to Navarino Bay which is protected from the open sea by the island of Sphaktira which you can see in this photo looking out from our camping place on a proper campsite with all facilities including wifi (hence this post) and camp site fees to match!
