Into Puglia and then from Italy to Greece

On Saturday 5th May we continued eastwards and came into Puglia with its characteristic "beehive" roofed houses.

Soon we got our first sight of the Adriatic.

We stayed at an aire at Torre Canne di Fasano on the Adriatic coast where coincidently there was a mega fishing competition going on. None of them seemed to catch anything over 10 cms long.

There were some interesting ruins on the beach.

Including this which seems to have been some kind of a boat dock.

On Sunday 6th May we got on a ferry at Bari bound for Patras in Greece. Our van had an excellent sea view.

We had a very atmospheric journey to Patras. First an amazing sunset.

Then an amazing moonrise.

Followed by an intermediate stop at the port of Igoumenitsa close to the Albanian border.

We arrived at Patras at 7.00 a.m.

We found a campsite close by with a nice pebble beach and very good free wifi.Spent most of the day downloading a new map for our satnav Tomasina (the Tom Tom) as our current map did not cover Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia etc.

The campsite was very quiet when we arrived earlier today however at about 3.00 p.m about 30 Romanians with learning difficulties arrived and camped. The men from this party seem to spend most of their time in the womens' toilets thus scandalising the odd upstanding female Danish or Dutch tourist aiming to use the facilities!
