Friday 6th November

Today we travelled through the city of A Coruna stopping to fill our LPG cylinders and buy groceries along the way. We stopped for a brew by this nice beach not far from the town of Cedeira. This area of Galicia is known as the Rias Altas (the High Estuaries). There are numerous inlets all along this coast.

We travelled through a highland area near San Andres de Teixido which is a place of pilgrimage associated with the old Galician pre christian religion It was thought that if you didn't make the pilgrimage here you would turn into a lizard or a weasel after your death. Apparently until quite recently it was the custom to bury anyone who had died without making the pilgrimage with a bus ticket to San Andres de Teixido in their pocket!

For one reason or another we made a much longer journey than we had planned today - 113 miles (182 kilometres) so we were glad to stop when we reached the remove fishing village of Porto de Vares.

Unfortunately there was a very unfriendly sign at the entrance to the village car park but we decided to stay anyway, emboldened by the presence of a very big and very posh German campervan in the car park. We reasoned that no one would dare to try to move the Germans on so it would be okay for us to stay too and so it proved.

The light was really marvellous as the sun went down.
