When I woke up this morning Polarlys was docked for a brief stay at Vadso. This area, very unusually for Norway, looks quite flat.

We docked at Kirkenes at about 9.15. This is the end of the Hurtigruten's northbound route and from here we will retrace our route eventually arriving back in Bergen where we started.

It is very cold here - ice crystals are forming in the air - it is -18C.

Ice is forming on the surface of the sea.

We took a walk around.

We noted where the camper van service point is for future reference.

There was no wind and it actually felt quite warm in the sun!

We walked towards the town centre but didn't go all the way there.

We saw this memorial to the Soviet soldiers who liberated Kirkenes from the Nazis in 1944.

There are piles of snow everywhere in Kirkenes - the result of keeping the roads clear.

Now we're leaving Kirkenes to start our long journey back to Bergen.

As we were leaving Kirkenes we saw that most of the fjord was iced over.
