Tuesday 14th July 2026

This morning we travelled the short distance west to the port at Bodo and queued up for the ferry to Moskenes on Lofoten. 50% of the places on the ship can be prebooked and the rest are allocated on a first come, first served basis. We fell into the latter category and I think we were the second to last vehicle to get onto the 14.00 departure!

The ship was packed. We squeezed onto a table with four Swedes.

We had a cup of coffee to sustain us on the three and a half hour crossing.

During the journey there was a dramatic helecopter rescue practice!

I think the idea was to see if they could rescue someone from the ferry in the event of a medical emergency.

The sea was quite rough making it difficult to walk around on the ship.

Our swedish pals dozed off.

We arrived at Moskenes about 18.00 and made the short journey east to the village of Hamnoy. During this journey the brakes on the van partially failed making it dangerous to drive. We stopped for the day in a small parking area by the sea pictured here.

Shortly after we arrived this swedish registered motorhome turned up.

This is a really sensational place to break down!

A pity the weather isn't better.

A large pile of rocks protects the main E10 road from the sea.

There are several fishing boats in the harbour at Hamnoy.

This stupendous cliff is right next to the harbour! We decided to wait until tomorrow to call out our breakdown service. I watched Spain 2 France 0 World Cup semi final on my smartphone as it was only on pay TV in Norway.

Today we travelled 17 miles (27 kilometres), excluding the distance travelled on the ferry from Bodo to Moskenes. We are at: N67.94633 E13.13773
