Today we travelled north east. We visited the Bolareinen rock carvings by Lake Snasavatnet. The site is down hill towards the lake from the parking place.
Just to the left of the waterfall is this stunning lifesize petroglyph of a reindeer. It is thought to have been carved about 6000 years ago when this rockface rose from the sea. During the last ice age this area was covered by a vast ice cap the weight of which had pushed the land down. When the ice cap melted the land rose exposing rock from under the sea which may have been a tempting surface for a prehistoric artist!
We stopped briefly at a beautiful place by a lake where we had intended to park for the day however it was infested by numerous horseflies so we moved on to "The Gateway to North Norway" pictured here, and stopped for the day.
It costs 150 Norwegian Kroners (£11.54) to stay here overnight, but the charge is probably optional as nobody checks that you have paid. It is a busy place with lots of comings and goings along the main E6 road.
There is a horrendous nick nack shop here which also does takeaways. We had reindeer pizza with chips and onion rings for our tea - surprisingly nice!
Sensational news from Dartmoor! The famous europhobic and homophobic bigot Ann Widdecombe has been found murdered at her house in Haytor Vale, about 5 miles from our house in Widecombe! At least I have an alibi - "I was in Northern Norway at the time officer and I can prove it".
Today we travelled 124 miles (200 kilometres). We are at: N65.10122 E13.34336
