Sunday 12th July 2026
There is a memorial here to Yugoslavians enslaved by the Nazis and forced to build "The Blood Road".
An adjoining interpretive sign explains the context of the memorial.
Lupins grow in profusion in this area of Norway.
We stopped for thr day at the Arctic Circle Center which we have visited twice before - in 2011 and in 2017.
The Center is situated on the Saltfjellet Pass at about 700 metres above sea level.
The Arctic Circle is the southernmost latitude at which the sun never sets on the summer solstice and never rises on the winter solstice.
The Center houses a horrendous nick nack shop.
There is some stuffed local wildlife along with troll effigies!
We decided to go for a ride/walk.
We went through this tunnel under the E6 main road.
We were soon in wild country.
We crossed a stream.
Further on we came to a river.
The river is bridged here but the surface became too rough for Ann's mobility scooter so we turned around.
It's amazing that we could get out into such a beautiful wild place so close to a tourist trap!
As well as the nick nack shop the Center houses an eatery called The Arctic Bistro.
The menu looked promising but we didn't have very high hopes.
There are lots of nice pictures on the eatery walls.
After another visit to the nick nack shop we returned to our van. Sunset here is at about 24.00 today and sunrise tomorrow will be at about 2.00.
Today we travelled 105 miles (169 kilometres). We are at: N66.55204 E15.32009
