This morning we waved goodbye to our german pals and headed off north east. We stopped at Hume at this laundrette.

After nearly two weeks travel we had a lot of washing to do. The card reader was a bit dodgy rejecting payment from my Nationwide credit and debit cards but accepting my Tesco credit card!?

There are stickers on the washers and dryers warning customers not to put their dog, cat or parrot into the machines! I couldn't decide whether these were a joke or whether the owners thought that there was a possibility that customers might put their pet into a machine.

Ann did some window and mirror cleaning while the washing was doing it's thing.

This stall just across from the laundrette sells strawberries, peas and potatoes. There is a card machine inside for people to use to pay for their purchases.

The washing and drying done we moved on north east. At one point our route was temporarily blocked following a road accident so we diverted into Hirtshals and bought a couple of things at Lidl before getting back on route, servicing the van and stopping for the day at the end of a minor road in the dunes near Skagen. Here's the view out of the front of our van.

It's a beautiful place but very, very windy!

I ventured out.

I climbed up a dune. Very hard going in the soft fine sand.

From the top of the dune I could see the north sea not far away.

The vegetation on the dune was blowing around a lot.

I retraced my steps.

There were several other vans staying over.

Sunday 28th June 2026

We bought a few items at the supermarket and attempted to service our van before leaving Hanstholm - water cost 30 DKK (£3.47) and the thread on the freshwater tap was incompatible with any of my numerous set of adaptors! We moved on north east to a quiet wooded area seen here.

There are hides for hunters here.

There is potential for rides/walks.

However there were also rather a lot of biting flies so we decided to move on.

We moved on a little further north east and stopped for the day at Thorupstrand.

The fishing boats here are hauled up the beach by tractors.

There is a fish restaurant here.

We talked to a German couple who live full time in this van. Coincidently they were in the van parked behind us on the grassy field in Hanstholm last night!

Ann went for a ride. She reckoned it was too bumpy and sandy to be up to much so she came back fairly soon.

We went for a paddle in the North Sea. It was quite warm. There are lots of nice stones on the beach.

We walked back to the van were we met a single female vanner from Yorkshire. We had a long chat. She has rented out her house and is travelling in her small van full time. We had spicy grilled chicken for tea - very nice!

Saturday 27th June 2026

Today we travelled north. The area around Lemvig is quite hilly - the first hills we have seen since leaving Britain! We took this picture next to a church on a hill above the town.

All the churches around here seem to look much the same.

We crossed this bridge over the Oddesund.

We travelled north through Thy National Park where we stopped for a biscuit or two or three.

We stopped for the day at the town of Hanstholm. We did a supermarket shop and then parked on this large grassy area.

We are just next to the lighthouse.

We went for a ride/walk.

A good trail runs along the top of the cliffs here.

Here's the harbour seen from the cliff tops.

We saw these Highland Cattle.

We briefly moved our van down to a parking area on the cliff top overlooking the harbour, but decided it wasn't cool to stay there, so moved back to the grassy area where we had originally parked! From here we could see numerous vans parked for the night at the supermarket. Sometimes I think vanners are a bit like sheep - they tend to follow each other's example!

We saw this Hooded Crow in the field next to our van.

Friday 26th June 2026

 Today we travelled north.

For most of the journey there was open sea to our west and a fjord to the east.

We saw what we thought might be old navigation signs on the tops of sand dunes.

 

We stopped briefly for a cold drink and a biscuit at a car park in the dunes.

We did a supermarket shop before visiting Dybe Church.

We went inside. The pews are very distinctive.

There are some interesting murals on the ceiling above the alter.

Many of the burials here have little hedges around them.

We moved on before stopping for the day at a car park by the sea near Lemvig, Denmark. Here's the view from the front of our van.

We went for a short ride/walk.

There is a jetty for diving or boating off.

We sat for a while contemplating the surroundings.

This lad who was parked next to us seems to have locked himself out of his car when he returned from swimming with his scantily clad female companion! We went off to the cafe for tea and when we came back his car was gone. Later on we watched France 4 Norway 1 on Danish TV.
